The Sale of Prospectus and Application forms for the Entrance Examination for Admission to the MBBS course at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Wanowrie, Pune - 411040, will commence on 24.12.2007 (Monday) and will continue till stocks last or 1.2.2008 (Friday), whichever is earlier.

The materials can be obtained on payment of Rs. 250/- in cash at the following general / Head / Central / Main Post Offices.

By Post: Prospectus and Application forms can also be obtained by Post from Officer-in-Charge (Admission Cell), Armed Forces Medical College, Pune - 411040 on payment of Rs. 250/- by Bank Draft on a Nationalized Bank, in favour of ‘Commandant, AFMC, Pune’, payable at Pune.

Online: Applicants may apply online by visiting the link http://afmc.nic.in/online_admission.html and following the instructions given therein. The facility will be available till 1.2.2008 (Friday) only.

The request or application for obtaining Prospectus and Application form by Post, should contain the particulars and address of the applicant and should be accompanied by two separate slips of paper of size 9 cm x 5 cm having the full Postal Address of the applicant on it and a self addressed envelope of 11" x 13" size with postage stamps worth Rs. 55/- affixed on it along with the Demand Draft. The Demand Draft enclosed should bear the Code number of the issuing Bank. The applicant must write his/her name & address on the back of the Demand Draft. Bank Drafts on any other banks other than Nationalized Banks, Money Orders, Cash or Postal Orders will not be accepted. The request for Prospectus by post, will be accepted from 24.12.2007 (Monday) to 4 pm on 25.1.2008 (Friday).

Last Date: Completed forms along with other necessary documents mentioned in the Prospectus/Application form must reach the Officer-in-Charge (Admission Cell), Armed Forces Medical College, Pune - 411040 by 4 pm on 5.2.2008 (Tuesday).

Entrance Examination: The Written Entrance Examination will be held at selected centres on 4.5.2008 (Sunday). The standard of the entrance examination will be that of 11th and 12th classes under the 10+2 Scheme/Pre-Medical/Intermediate Science or an equivalent examination of the State Education Board/Indian University

Results: The results of Written Examination will be published by the end of May 2008. It will be available in the ‘DGAFMS’ page in http://www.indianarmy.nic.in
Interview will be held in June 2008 at AFMC Pune. Exact dates will intimated to successful candidates. The final result and selection list will be published approximately in the 4th week of June 2008. It will be available in the link

On the basis of the test and interview, two merit lists, one for boys and another for girls, will be drawn up. Admissions will be made in accordance with their merit position. Individual letters of admission will be sent only to selected candidates who would be required to join AFMC. The remaining candidates will be on waiting list.

The course commences in August.

Service Liability: Students who complete the course have compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The offer of the type of commission will depend on the vacancies available. A bond agreement has to be signed by the parent/guardian of the candidate to this effect at the time of admission.

Eligibility: A candidate seeking admission to the MBBS course is eligible to take the entrance examination if he/she fulfills the following criteria:
(i) is a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan or a person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan or any other foreign country with the intention of permanently settling in India.
(ii) is unmarried. Marrying during the course is not permitted.
(iii) is medically fit as per prescribed standards by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Defence
(iv) has attained the age of 17yrs on 31st December of the year of application, but has not attained the age of 22 years on that date (Not more than 24 years in case of candidates who have passed or are appearing in final B Sc examinations).

Academic Qualifications: Candidate must have passed all the subjects opted for, of the qualifying examinations, as a regular candidate, in the first attempt, with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these 3 science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of the 10th standard.

Number of Seats: 130 students including 25 girls will be admitted. Ten seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates provided they qualify in the written examination and come within the zone to be called up for interview and come within the first 500 in the final combined merit list of boys and girls.

Medical Standards: The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty in the Armed Forces. Details of medical standards expected are available in the link http://afmc.nic.in/mbbs.html

Concessions: Service liability students (male and female) are eligible for the following concessions provided by the government. (i) entitled rations as authorized and subsidized messing (ii) Free hostel accommodation and allied services (iii) AC 3 Tier railway warrant for journey during vacation from college to home and back (iv) First Class/ AC 2 Tier rail Journey on railway warrant after being commissioned (v) A subsidy of Rs.12,000/- per student for purchase of books and equipment during the entire training period. The amount will be sanctioned proportionately during I, II and III MBBS (vi) Uniform allowance Rs.6,000/- per student during first year and Rs.1,250/- per year as maintenance allowance in subsequent years (vii) Hair Cutting/Hair Cleaning Allowance of Rs.40/- per month per student.(viii) Stationery allowance of Rs.1000/- per cadet per year.(ix) Washing allowance Rs.120/- per student per month during the term and Rs.20/- per month during break.
